This is a tributary of the Alwen and is an excellent Brown Trout stream. Several anglers venture here with lighter tackle and Tenkara outfits and catch a good number of fish. This is a spate river and can be very good for Salmon in the latter part of the season – it’s often fished when the conditions on the main river are less than favourable. The Beat consists of several good pools and is a mixture of single and double bank fishing.
Access off the A5 from the direction of Llangollen – travel through Corwen and head out of the town. Go through 2 sets of traffic lights and proceed through the village of Maerdy. Pass the Goat Inn on the right and continue to the village of Dinmael. Immediately after the chapel and directly opposite the ‘bus stop’ take the left turn shown below. Proceed down the hill and the parking area is on the right before the river bridge. Access points to the Beat are shown below.
Access off the A5 from the direction of Bettws y Coed – travel along the A5 passing the village of Cerrigand continue to the village of Dinmael. Immediately before the chapel and directly opposite the ‘bus stop’ take the right turn shown below. Proceed down the hill and the parking area is on the right before the river bridge. Access off the A5 travelling from the Chester direction – follow the A5104 to the point where it becomes the A494 and proceed to the traffic lights where the A494 meets the A5. Turn right here onto the A5 and proceed through a second set of traffic lights. Go through the village of Maerdy, pass the Goat Inn on the right and continue to the village of Dinmael.
